Okay folks, we've have some trouble with members getting hacked and all that malarkey. It’s rapidly becoming apparent to me that we need to put some infrastructure in place in order to handle the guild bank and general guild admin. One of the disadvantages of the “all members” system is that, although there are no power structures, it also means ultimately nobody can do anything when things go wrong. As Steamy suggested it seemed one possible way to control potential disasters is to limit member withdrawals a bit. On the other hand, if I’m going to take stuff away from people in the name of logistics we’re also going to have put systems in place for providing it. My theory would be to create a new rank (possibly called Peon) with all admin privileges of promotion / demotion / guild bank access etc. This would not be an officer rank per se – there is no inherent kudos in it, and it’s entirely voluntary. Basically peons would be expected to perform administrative functions and keep an eye on things generally, tidy *shudder* the gbank, and help members out with cash / stuff from the gbank if cash/withdrawal restrictions are causing people trouble. As I say, it would be entirely voluntary – and, potentially, temporary? We could rotate peon-ship around ourselves every couple of months or so. Thoughts? Volunteers

You have my sword! Ops, this is not the RP forum... Anyway, I don't mind giving a hand with this, after all I'm used to tidy gbank. I'm only online during evenings (8-8:30 server time onwards) on labour days. On weekends I'm usually more time online unless there's a plan in First Life. People up for this should also include when they're available so a "Peon Calendar" can be made to cover as much time as possible, unless it isn't required and petitions are made through notes mainly. And as Steamy proposed, having an authenticator should be a requisite (and having some security software too).

Ok I have a puppy (and the attached Authenticator) and I'm usually around (evenings and weekends anyways) on account of y'know - having no life. So happy to be of assistance as and when.

Me not that kind of orc! j/k I have the flaming puppy (and his daddy from MC, Cheers Pilf and Naofa ;D) plus Comodo Firewall/Anti-Virus and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware which have served me well in my adventures in friends and family tech support and on my own machine. I am happy to help but as I work shifts my play time is quite often at bizarre times of day except for my days off.

To be an officer...rrr.. peon of a guild where everyone is happy, I like the 'Job'-description.
If needed I am willing to be one of the peons (do have xp with it, am authenticated, etcetera), and I am an enchanter, so I could get rid of all the greenies which just seem to be dropped into the gbank, and not taken..
And I am proposing Steamy (he is gonna slap me for this), as peon.

I have never had my account compromised but if there is one sure as hellfire way of invoking the Law of Sod into getting me hacked, it would be to become a Peon. I'll let others far more worthy handle this mighty task!

*slaps Gowron over the ocean back to Silvermoon* Then again, when comparing time spend online in SAN I probably top the charts, even if it's just sitting at the TB pond doing other things *Raises hands to volunteer* Under one term, I refuse to be labelled as "Peon", the geek in me demands to labelled as "Naib"!

I'd suggest all that take on this new rank be required to have authenticators on their account. Proof would be to just ask them in game to show you their "Corehound pup" (free pet for auth accts)

The authenticator idea is a good one - you could keep the access open to everyone with an authenticator. No authenticator - no access. That would keep the open structure of the guild if you want to keep that.

Iwas going to suggest the above as well, if you want to keep the guild an open sort of systej with no ranks per se...just have an Auth rank and a non auth rank, the rank with no auth has lesser bank privelages etc to safeguard the guild....but then everyone else can just remain as is.
Not having an Auth these days is nuts imho anyway with the amount of pishing/hacking currently going on - especially leading up to cataclysm - people are stockpiling gold/items etc...

I don't have one and most probably will not get one. The only scam, phishing and so on mail comes surprisingly to the email account which is in no way connected to anything gaming related, so I'm safe. Besides, I don't trust anything or anyone over the net. You are just trying to misguide me anyhow.

Can or should we do the same thing on the US server? I think it would be wise...

you trusted this forum which has adverts on it .... just saying *passes round tin-foil hats* How have I trusted this forum, huh? I'm here on nick that doesn't trace to me, the email addy and other information about me are just as anonymous as anything else and so on. You're just trying to confuse me. You're not.

The problem is not the connection to the nick or opening suspicious mail. Several people have been infected with keyloggers by just visiting trusted sites. The hackers manage to place an "infected" ad that installs the keylogger and sends them back your data. While the "remember login" helps not to write it you'll be still infected and they can gather all kind of info, like credit card numbers and verification data and get your login if you go to the web page to administer your account or try the web AH version. Adding an extra layer of security like the authenticator never hurts.
