As some of you on EU side know I've been playing around with streaming music on Ventrilo. A couple of people asked me how I did it, but since it's sort of complicated I decided to write this step by step guide. Excuses for silly language on some screenshots.
1. Downloading and installing Virtual Audio Cable
Go here and download and install VAC. It's pretty straight forward so there is really no need to explain. Note that this is a trial version where a voice will start spamming "trial" over and over again after roughly 30 seconds. You'll need the full version to stream properly, but this is fine to check if you can get it working.
2. Vent configuration
The first thing you need to is make a copy your ventrilo folder (usually found at "C:\Program Files\Ventrilo"). Copy the contents of your original Ventrilo folder into a new one and name it something like "Ventrilo Music".
Next you need to copy to short-cuts onto your desktop and re-name one of them. I named my standard short-cut "Ventrilo" and my streaming one "Music".
Now things get a bit more complicated. Right click on your music ventrilo short-cut and choose properties. Edit the circled line to look like what it does in the picture. *space* -m
Now you can have two versions of Ventrilo running at the same time. Start up your regular one and log in as usual. Now open the music one and create a new profile with a different name. Edit the highlighted areas to match the screenshot.
Now Ventrilo is ready and your music profile's microphone should always be green.
3. Media player set up (Winamp example)
The next thing you need to do is set up your media player to play to Ventrilo. Since I'm using Winamp as my standard one I will use that as an example. It should be rahter similar in other media players. Go to Options>Preference>Output>Configure and change the the output to as shown in the screenshot.
You should be good to go now! Trying playing something with both profiles logged in and you should hear your music profile on your normal one. If you're only logged into your music profile you will not hear anything.
