I've been reading posts and pondering for the last few days, come up with a few opinions. I'm tempted to wait for the paladins since they are apparently coming out tomorrow but oh well.
Mages: Mages came out very well. They are getting interesting new spells and I think all three specs will be in a very good place in Cataclysm. They are in a pretty decent place now and with the talent tree mastery system Blizz will be able to tweak things as needed without having to mess with all three trees/styles.
Shamans: Came out okay. I understand why they are taking dispells away from DPS specs, really I do. I think it might even be a good idea in the long run as far as paladins go. For shamans? It's not like they have a ton of defensive options. The lack of defensive cooldowns has me, well, defensive about them taking away poison and disease. It's downright insulting when you consider the whole nature side of shamans plus the fact they openly admit they are doing this for PvP. Makes it a bitter pill to swallow for folks that only dabble in PvP (like myself) or don't play it at all.
I'm worried about how little they talked about enhancement. I hardly took this as TEH PATCH NOTES 4.0 but seriously, enhancement has some survivial issues. They have acknowledged this openly. Yet it did not get touched on.
Totems did not get nearly enough talk. The shaman community has been downright gushy over the change to Fire Nova, I know very few who are still unhappy about it. And Blizz said they wanted to make totems more interesting. Yet. . . Nothing. Worrisome.
Enough griping. Elemental looks like it will rock, love the mastery it is getting for its tree. And EARTHQUAKE!!! Need I say more?
Resto is (hopefully) making out like a bandit. I pray Spirit Link makes it thru beta, I wanted that and was so unhappy when it got taken out. Healing Rain? YES PLEASE. I've wanted that ever since I saw it in ICC.
Unleash Weapon? Fun. Looking forward to it. Spiritwalkers Grace? I'm not as excited as some folks but still happy. I'm absolutely fine with Mages getting Time Warp.
Druid: Pretty good. Yay for Thrash, Stampeding Roar looks fun. Exploding Mushrooms, eh. Losing tree form? NOT HAPPY. I don't want tree form to be a fancy sort of trinket
Bell covers many of my complaints far better than I could at
4haelz.blogspot.com/2010/04/deforestation-into-homogenization.htmlNo mention of lolCower has me an annoyed kitty.
I'm glad that tree healing is staying focused on HoTs. After new direct heals were announced for both shamans and priests (and we all know paladins will be getting one too) I was terribly afraid Blizz would give druids another heal and we'd be pushed more into direct heals. Sounds like they might be doing the opposite though, I'd much rather be rolling Lifebloom (I desperately hope Lifebloom gets a complete re-working and is made wonderful again) and jumping and casting other instants. Mobility and that sort of character is what drew me to my druid in the first place.
I am a bit concerned about burst healing. That is the resto druid's weakness and I didn't see that adressed at all. I didn't really want another heal but think either we could use another AoE heal or either Tranquility or Wild Growth need to change. I'm not a fan of Wild Growth and really hope it get reworked a bit.
Overall I'm optomistic and looking forward to seeing how things go. I'm sure Beta will bring a lot of changes. I wish other folks would remember that, the QQ on the forums is just disgusting right now (yes, even more than usual)
Oh, am I the only one wondering where the heck I'll be fitting all the new spells? I'm already short on keybinds and mouse buttons! I know some stuff will go away, I wish they'd let us know what already!
