Voted Alliance because that's where my currently active characters are, BUT I still protest that there isn't a fence-straddler option! Altophile for life! *foot-stomp*
Protest = joke ;D, but I am serious about the fence-straddler/altophile thing. Before I even started playing WoW, I went through the races, classes and professions and made a little table of the combinations that I wanted to play. Everything but paladin (still biased from my D&D days). Pretty equal distribution of my characters still now.

I started out with a lonely Orc Warrior name Drúkor on Khadgar about 3 years back, not having a clue about what this game was about and not realizing that there are major population differences per realm and faction. I thought it was one seamless world and all that *ah the newbish days* any who anyone who knows Khadgar knows that is has a 3 to 1 ally horde ratio and that makes for a lonely sad Orc warrior.
It was nee impossible to find groups to do ANYthing with. So I rolled a nelf Durid to see how the other side lived and that lead to a Hunter and badaboom badabang... I was married with 2 kids and a mortgage... Horde 4 Life but stuck in the body of a nelf!

Alliance. All the characters I play are, and mostly human. I've tried Horde characters too, but since I got so used to humans I made almost all of them (save for my dwarf hunter, nelf druid and draenei shammy). Also, having less confusing cities is a plus to go Ally

For The Horde! Actually, to such a point that I would've had even more fun if SAN-EU would've been Alliance. I only have one high level Alliance toon and another 4x.

When I started playing, my bf and friend were Horde on Vashj-PvP. Two things I didn't like the sound of but I didn't get much choice unless I wanted to play alone! Eventually broke up with that bf and met Dan, so I stuck around playing Horde on Vashj. Though generally, I prefer Alliance, and PvE servers. Alliance have Draenei, and much better racial mounts! And I can't stand gankers. But still Horde, spose Blood Elves and Wolf mounts will do

Normally Alliance. I started playing on that side, and my main and all the other high-level characters are on that side. The problem that I have with Horde is that so many of the character models simply cannot stand up straight, and that irritates me. Prior to belfs (and who wants to get stuck playing Barbie?) troll females were the only ones that I could play. I'm looking forward to Worgen...it's the main reason that I haven't switched more characters over. I think they'll be so freakin' cool.

Horde since the start. I know the Blood Elf starting zones so well I can level up to 20 in a pinch. I'm lost in other areas. I'm insanely jealous Allies will get Worgen in Cataclysm. Since I was big enough to heal SFK on my priest, I'd been saying how cool it would be to have Worgen as a playable race... And now, BOO! WTT Goblins for Worgen!

Just imagine all the Twilight fanboys. You're better off with Goblins.

Just imagine all the Twilight fanboys. You're better off with Goblins. Ouch. You may have just ruined Worgen for me. Worgen + Twilight + FlagRSP abuse = ... Cataclysm of the brain?

I play Horde primarily due to the fact that I prefer to play male characters and can't really stand any of the male Alliance models. I prefer to not be viewed as a piece of meat and if I play Alliance I have to play a female character.
Horde races manage to be far enough out of the uncanny valley to not make me feel unsettled but close enough to it to make them interesting. Of course, Belves are the exception, but their amazingly flamboyant swishyness and having the fantastic Cam Clarke as their voice actor makes up for it.

For me it is more about the races than factions. I love my trolls, draenei, gnomes and dwarves. Nightelf ladies are okay as long as they don't do that bouncy thing they do (although it was hillarious to see Sylvanas do it every now and then... ;D )

I'm for the Alliance - I started out Alliance and possibly would have tried out the dark side at some point but I started playing with a work colleague who was alliance and now it's largely impractical to go over given time constraints.
That said I am trying it out again (since the introduction of cross faction BoA mailing) - but it has a low priority - and like others have said it would have worked out better for me if SAN-US was Horde side!
