For those looking for RP, but not finding any. I suggest heading over to argentarchives.org/ . A very well put together site for the RP community on AD. An excellent suggestion. Argent Archives is arguably the best server-forum in WOW.

I'm a US-SAN member and I was a little irked when I found I was joining an RP server. It's a bit intimidating for someone who has never RPed in a game, and go figure: it only took 5 minutes playing before I was approached to RP. I went under the radar, scared to offend the RPers around me. (I guess I didn't really think it through when I made my character. I have no idea how I'd play a spacesquid... er, Draenei. ) Thanks for the guide, it really helps! I don't plan on RPing but you've demystified it and made it less scary for an RP noob like me. Appreciate it heaps. Edit: I couldn't reply to your posts either. There was no option for folks without a profile with numerous ID sites.

Hadawako, this is splendid!
All, he has the third installment up!
One thing I'm curious of at this point, is the typical MMO language translated into good RP. Tanking, DPS, CC, etc. Anybody have examples of these topics being discussed IC?

Not that I've seen, but I've also very rarely RPed in instances or raids. I guess tanking could be described as "keeping them off you" or "keeping them busy" or something like that.

One thing I'm curious of at this point, is the typical MMO language translated into good RP. Tanking, DPS, CC, etc. Anybody have examples of these topics being discussed IC? That can be a tricky one, for two reason: - How do you represent in-game mechanics in IC language?
- The difficulties of typing that kind of realistic language in the heat of battle
The first one is easier to deal with: rather than looking for a tank, you can be looking for "a brave warrior who can protect us from the creatures in the Wailing Caverns". Likewise, sheeping someone can simply become "I turn dat one inta a lil sheep Maybe we eat 'im later".The second one is a real practical difficulty and you'll rarely see people doing progression content in character. What tends to happen is that people find easier things to do (e.g. old BC raids), where you outgear the content enough to have time free to think about your character's language. There used to be some addons (like roleplaying helper and annoyrp) that automatically said things in response to certain events, such as casting a spell or suffering a crit. Whilst they could be fun for a while, the need to pre-define all the phrases meant that they got rather repetitive and annoying on long runs, so I stopped using them. Most of these are now discontinued, although a couple of class-specific ones (WittyMage & WittyDruid) are still going.

"a brave warrior who can protect us from the creatures in the Wailing Caverns" My brain hurts just imagining trying to appropriately reword things to suit RP conventions. But yeah, I was wondering how RPers go with raiding! Does the tank stop to give a motivational speech to his raiders, driving them forth to victory and honor, defeating the evil that stands before them?! It's all a mystery and amusing to think how things are done whilst keeping things in character.

I have seen some great pre-battle speeches from raid leaders. What I think most of them do is pre-write them and then paste them into chat when the time comes. That way, they aren't struggling for words when the big moment comes. P.S. Part 4 of the introduction to roleplaying is up at: failpug.blogspot.com/2010/03/introduction-to-roleplaying-part-4.html

Much love for these Hada <3 Taking a day to read through a pile of "Beginner RP Guides" I'm stumbling around, getting some idea and your guides are so thorough!
