Guild Event: Easter Egg Hunt [Oceanic]

Note this is currently marked as Oceanic - because so far I'm the only one that has put their hand up to organise it so far - I'm looking for volunteers for US/EU!

Heya.

I posted this idea over at Blog Azeroth after some discussions on Twitter and it is looking like it would be better as just a SAN guild event rather than tying it in to a big multi blog event.

The idea is this:

The premise behind it comes from the other meaning of Easter Egg. As reads from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_egg_(media):

A virtual Easter egg is an intentional hidden message, in-joke or feature in an object such as a movie, book, CD, DVD, computer program, web page or video game.

In game there are a numerous pop culture references, for example Harris Pilton. The idea behind this event it to set up a scavenger hunt that we can run as a guild event to find (and screenshot) a number of pop culture references in game.

To add to the fun it would also be worth abstracting out the references to make people deduce what they are rather than just listing them. However I'm not sure how that would go - it may or may not work. Thoughts?

Mainly the fun behind this will largely be trying to get all those low level alts to all the difficult to find places to take the screen shots.

I think we'd need to take suggestions for times. EU is probably alright to do in an evening, US/Oceanic it'll be tougher to find a commonish time (I'm from Australia and have limited time frames so I understand the issues).

I'm guessing Sunday night would work best (that works for us Aussies as the Monday is a holiday).

I guess I'll also need volunteers for people to get this kicking in game at the appropriate times too!

I think the Flames questions would single out people who haven't levelled as fast as others, questions that anybody could join in with despite level would be much better

Also, that's a good idea, Angelya has another blog Easter Egg idea up so there would still be something going on.

Yea there are a few level 80 spec questions.

I'd be up for writing a newer version aimed at the early levels if you'd like

Actually the idea is for it to be an 'Easter Egg' hunt - so I was thinking specifically to search for in-game pop culture references which are WoW's version of Easter Eggs. How I was thinking of doing this was to get people to email their favourite in-game pop culture reference with appropriate clues and I would create the list from there... I'd then send the answers to who-ever was running the in-game event so you don't get stalled before we begin because someone has an obscure was of looking at the world (which I am commonly accused of).

For an example of pop culture references one of the most obvious is "Haris Pilton" in Shattrah.

I hadn't really thought about splitting up into groups and making it into a competition like you did with the Flames event - would people find that interesting... or would it all be about who had the high level lock/mage?

So questions to be answered:
1. What day/time is best for US/EU?
Sunday 8pm CET (so 7pm for UK)? (Is AD EU server time CET?)

US side I've got no idea... US morning is AU evening (PST + 18 hours to AEST) - I could probably make it to a 9pm PST event as that'll be 1pm Monday for me (3pm for you Angelya, 4pm for AEST) but that makes it 12pm for the east coast us.

Maybe we need to run two events for the SAN US?

2. Make it a competition by forming smaller groups - or just one mass of lowbies going places lowbies shouldn't go?

Ok in terms of times I was chatting with some people on the SAN-US last week and it's not going to be easy to set one time. So what I'm thinking is this - I'll set up and run one for the oceanic players at a time that works for me and then other can volunteer to run one for the US/EU and set the time!

So for Oceanic players:
Sunday 4th 8.30 PM WST (GMT + 8) - that's my local time.
Sunday 4th 10.30 PM AEST (Day light savings has finished by then hasn't it)
which should work out to:
Sunday 4th 8.30 AM Server Time (which is EST)

Also if you can start sending in your Easter Egg references (preferably with a wowhead link) and (optionally) clues that would be great - if you can't think of clues just explain the reference and I can google and make something up. I'll put together a list from them - enough to cover about 1.5 hours. Preferably Neutral ones - but if they are horde/alliance only then it is ok because
a) we can have a different one for EU and US and
b) we can have some extra fun trying to get into the opposite faction if people are willing

So Istarian - your wish might be my command. It turns out that my weekend has been shifted about and I can't make the Sunday night either. At this point I'm still not sure if anyone will actually be coming, however I'm going to have to move this to the Monday night instead.
