I've said before I get called He and correct it to a "I'm a she, I'll have you know!" in a joking fashion, but I've never felt the need to prove myself. I've felt the need to prove myself as a healer - but that's because I'm competitive. Never because I'm a girl. However until very recently I was in a guild led by a female GM - she's recently abdicated to my Raid Leader however we all demanded he keep the title "Guild Mistress" - I don't know if this empowered me as a woman or...something I am the first and only female officer though. I think a lot of it with us in our guild is that I cna give as good as I get. Nobody would ever make any derogatory comment about my playing because they know I work my arse off, and...well, I'd let them die. I don't think dating a guildie has made much of a difference - although that's a recent development. If anything it increases the amount of abuse the pair of us get rather than decreases it

I've already gotten people hitting on me, making passes at me, and ignoring me when I'm giving people directions on how to do things like navigate WC and my toon's only level 18 (barely legal alt *headdesk*).( Waaaay offtopic, but "Barely legal alt: exposing WoW's soft underbelly" is a WoWblog **begging** to be made. In the same vein as Snottydin (experience-based, multiple authors) and suitably anonymised, of course.

I've been playing for almost 3 years and I was never ever hit on... even after I told the group I'm female. I've never been discriminated in any way, never had Vent go silent when I said hi. I'm starting to think something's wrong with me... In the interests of balance: Hey baby, what's your sign? <shudder>

Like most folks, I assume you are your toons gender until I know otherwise. Then I stick with what I know. I've always played female characters and my husband always played male characters until just recently. He rolled two females, a Draenei paladin and a BE rogue because he claimed he doesn't like how top heavy the male Draenei are and there's no difference between male and female BEs The Draenei hasn't bugged me much even though she is my mage's partner but the BE has been driving me up the wall. He says he'll probably faction change the rogue soon anyway and when he does he'll go male which makes me happy. I've already gotten people hitting on me, making passes at me, and ignoring me when I'm giving people directions on how to do things like navigate WC and my toon's only level 18 (barely legal alt *headdesk*).( I'm sorry you've run into that. I've been fortunate and haven't had much trouble like that. On the rare occation folks have been obnoxious about my gender I haven't hesitated to leave group, log off, whatever it takes. I've only run into one girl that regularly plays a male toon, she said that everyone automatically assumed she was a guy and she got more respect that way. Made me kind of sad. She did a gender change when that option came out though, I was surprised to see her in SW as a female one day!

"I find this part of your post most intriguing, must a female player "prove" themselves more than male players? Do female players feel the need to stress their IRL sex (cause I am a gurl IRL and could so solo heal this) or once it comes out *le gasp* feel that you are no longer taken *seriously*?"
I find that once someone finds out I am a girl the flirts come out. This is more of a PUG thing since everybody in the guild knows me and I am married. I tend to keep a lid on my gender outside of the guild because some male players turn into real Casanovas, or others make comments about bitchiness or PMS when a girl player speaks up.
We had a PUG healer last night in our ICC who was a girl. One of our male guildies was lovestruck when he heard her on Vent. I kinda rolled my eyes - there were 2 female guildies in there for a total of 3 female players and still he got a crush.
I sometimes correct someone when I am referred to as a he, but most of the time it's no biggie.

When I play, I play and I concentrate with my very being on doing what I am doing to my fullest. I don't care if the people in my Raid/Guild/Group are female, male, hetereo, homo, mineral or vegetable as long as they treat the others in the Raid/Guild/Group with respect and friendliness whilst trying to do their best at their chosen role. But you know I get the feeling I am asking to much from most of the wow player base.

I generally assume that all female toons are male unless I find out otherwise. It makes life simpler. And someones sex is not something that bothers me, really. Occasionally one gets the pronoun wrong, but that's just life. On the internet no-one knows you're a dog.
Personally I generally prefer female toons even though I am 100% male beefcake. I think this is just because in my head I associate magic with females, and brute strength with males, and I prefer to play casters. Both my toons in SAN are female casters, for example.
Funnily enough I've never been hassled by horny chaps even though my main is a sexy female warlock. It may be that being dead is a turn-off for some. *shrugs*

Haha, awesome story that just happened in my girlfriend's raid.
RL: And then he can do xyz.. P1: OK, but it's a "she", btw. RL: Doesn't matter. P1: It matters to me.
